low key and pleasantly without hubbub...       11.29
s'what the holiday was at chez d'monquis, and then, poof...
it was over.
aujourd'hui, the parental units fly back to the desert southwest, where the preparation for the upcoming you-know-what holiday begins in earnest,
especially around Pivarnick HQ in EPT. Always happy to have the folks around,
we miss 'em lots when they leave l'marquis' domain...
so, yourstruly's on the j-o-b, likely be pretty darned quiet hereabouts, unlike the usual friday end of week deadline madness, so a little patience on our part will see us thru to the end of the working day, and a couple of days away to indulge in lazy, aimless indolence, the kind of thing this dumbmonkey's gotten very good at of late.
okay, just a couple of things to pass your way, in terms of chewy linky goodness. From the late late fall Ralph, When Billy Collins Met Anne Sexton; and then, something about one of those blazingly bright talents that disappears like a shooting star, by Derk Richardson, Remembering the late Tim Buckley.

our holiday shopping suggestion?

Don't drive yourself crazy, whatever you do.
Avoid the hordes descending upon the malls over the weekend.
If you're similiarly inclined as yourstruly, you'll wait till
after the holiday, buy up all the sale stuff and send it out
as New Year's Gifts -- Yah! Datz Da Ticket!!!
some shopping suggestions for that techie-geeky person on your list,
from Scientific American, Top Sci-Tech Gifts for 2002
yourstruly is not really promoting mindless consumerism...

altho yourstruly's feelin' somewhat ambivalent...       11.28
'bout what exactly we be thankful for, there's this local columnist we happen to be a big fan of that steps up to the plate and provides ourowndamnself with a reminder of just a few things this primate's got to thankful for, maybe serve as a reminder
for some of you, too...
Jon Carroll, A song of thanks; a grat etude
for those of you who've read all the way to bottom of page,
J.C.'s usual sign off with a bit of lyric, in this case, something Dylan-ish,
this lovely little bit of linky goodness

imagine this dumbmonkey's surprise...       11.27
whilst perusing bloggos favoritos & stopping in to visit Textism
(gail & dean are probably some pretty great neighbors, eh?)
lo&behold, Dean's provided chords for tune that happens to be
one of the guiltiest of yourstruly's guilty pleasures...       SO...
Dancing Queen, Abba
get up & get those happy feet dancin', boyz und gurlz...

on the cusp of the holiday...
brief mention of a couple of things that caught our attention, first,
yourstruly's giving thanks for the courage exemplified by these gentlemen;
and then, comrade blogster S. Baum is experiencing a void in his life,
one that ourowndamnself can empathize with, having said goodbye
in similiar fashion to our own beloved furry companion a year ago September,
for Shiva and for Camden, Robinson Jeffers' The House Dog's Grave.

besides encouraging our navel gazing habit...       11.26
this little vanity publishing exercise known as el chango tonto has also allowed us opportunity to make the aquaintence of some very fine folk, the majority of whom we only know as ghosts in the ether, but there are a few that we've have the great good fortune to acquaint ourselves with face to face. We'll not list each and every one of them here, saving a good many of them the embarrassment of having to admit they've broken bread with our silverbacked self, but one of the nice friendships that has come our way via the blogosphere is with fine fellow SJG, he of Plep. Esteemed SJ was housesitter/houseguest at chez d'monquis earlier this year, and is now off on another adventure, this time to South Africa, and if you want to keep up with the chewy linky goodness inspired by his adventures there, ourowndamnself recommends you visit Afriplep for a little of that vicarious, armchair adventuring. Bon Voyage, Esteban!

appears we not the only one wondering 'bout Tony's dreams...
sumbuddy sent me link to Slate's TV club Sopranos Studies.
kinda quiet hereabouts on the killing floor of Chronicle Classifieds, being that time of year certainly has something to do with it, passing along this next link for ennybuddy out there in a similiar situation, NYRB; check out the
Freeman Dyson review of T. Ferris's book in particular;
and also recommend reading William D. Nordhaus'
Iraq: The Economic Consequences of War.
Then, from another realm altogether,
the Realm of the Senses,
can you say Gustatory Delights?
okayokayokay, now...
you could also enjoy a leisurely perusal of
The Ethical Spectacle

thou shouldst not imagine yourstruly has nothing to say...       11.25
(or more appropriately, very little to say) of late, on the contrary, for some months now, something large & emotionally weighty's been occupying much of our current considerations, it is simply so unwieldly & (to some large degree) uncomfortable a thing, combination of things, that we're yet unable to wrap our mind around it all and wrestle it into some comprehensible shape, but we're working on it, oh yes we are; something extremely personal (perhaps frighteningly personal), some of it altogether frivolous, those ideas & germs of same varied & sundry things that have occupied much of our attention of late: Hubie Brown (Who?) back in the NBA coaching fraternity; our fascination with the plot lines of Six Feet Under as well as
Tony Soprano's dreams; our early season prognostication that the western conference champion (either Dallas or Sacramento this year) will beat anybody out of the east (as if any of you gave a damn); the vagaries and mysteries of love, in all of its forms: the love of parent for child, sibling for sibling, husband for wife, lover for paramour, the admirer who accepts the fact the one he admires so cannot return his love, but loves her nevertheless; why hearts break so easily,
when we so often imagine ourselves immune to such things...
the surprise we enjoyed friday was not such a big surprise, we had been forewarned, our dear Momz & Popz are safe & warm in the halls of chez d'monquis, our annual t-day holiday rondevouz well under way, albeit not the holiday any of us were expecting to experience, but drawing strength & nourishment from our closeness and support for one another. Ourowndamself on the j-o-b this day & on the morrow, two days off, then back here on friday, the same day our guests will be winging their way back to the desert southwest and the embrace of the west texass branch of our band of primates.
For now?
oh, not much, maybe more later,
maybe later tonight,
but thanks to the daily bleed for today:
Happy Birthday Diego Rivera

the weekend before the holiday...       11.22
and yourstruly's been told to expect a surprise today,
altho we have a pretty good idea of what to expect...
what engaged our attention yesterday when we came across the bodyscapes link was some similiarity to pictures in calendar we use, the one hanging next to our little desk when we sit here and type our loving words to our dedicated dozen readers...

lovely picture on the november page
in calendar by Karin Rosenthal
lots more linkage to K. Rosenthal via google
happy friday, y'all...

at least we can feel good about working here...       11.21
at the Chronicle when the editorial staff speaks up,
plainly & to the point:
It's not too late to defend freedom
for good measure, this morning's letters to the editor;
the esteemed Charlie Kokonino's got something to say about that IAO;
don't forget to take the opportunity to visit Craig's BookNotes,
definitely worth the time , check out those folks on his sidebar, too...
and then, for a little change of pace, we offer up to you something that
caught our eyes whilst on the ride into the j-o-b this morning,
bodyscapes.com

feelin' pissed & need to bitch about it...       11.20
okay, so this holiday known hereabouts as Thanksgiving is approaching and we want to be clear 'bout a few things here, for example, exactly what are we supposed to be thankful about. A simple perusal of some of the local fishwrap's pages this Am provides us with news about the oil tanker off the Spanish coast (and can you say "flags of convenience"); an item letting you know that if you're currently unemployed & collecting benefits, well, the shit's about to hit the fan (again); an item credited to the NYT reminding us that Healthcare in the U.S. is a frikkin' joke (link to the report online here); David Lazarus writes on tobacco foes meeting in S.F. to discuss how a multibillion-dollar global industry... murders its customers;
& in the Opinion page, 2 related items: Smoking out Big Tobacco's Global Strategy; also Tobacco -- Greatest Weapon of Mass Destruction;
and goddam' it, now we've got to sweat this domestic spying shit,
the pain of that alleviated for a mere moment by T. Meyer's cartoon.
now,
ordinarily yourstruly would not be sitting around this long on HIS DAY OFF to whine about this stuff, but goshdarnitall, it's got to piss off a lot of other people besides ourowndamnself, so why aren't we hearing about this, or,
more properly put, why aren't we hearing   M O R E   about this...
you know, it is going to trouble me when we have to pay $4.00 a gallon for gas, not because I won't be able to drive the monkeymobile as much as I want to; I have an excellent alternative to getting to work via public transit, two of them, and I live in a neighborhood where I can walk nearly any place I require visiting in terms of shopping for groceries, etc., but because sooner or later it will affect these excellent means of public transport, which will have to reduce service or cut it off altogether, of course after having raised the fares once again, and, correct me if I am wrong-- DOUBT IT!-- but what exactly has the government done of late to support & encourage the growth of public transportation and the maintenance & improvements to our transportation infrastructure? Nada, Nil, Non, Nuttin', right?
got to stop this and get outside or something before it gets too gloomy 'round here. Thanks for stopping by, we appreciate the visit, hope you're paying attention out there, too many of us have our heads firmly entrenched up the exit chute of our digestive tracts, gosh, do they like the smell of it in there or what?
we leave you with a few words from sumbuddy who cheers us up once in a while, and manages to do it while reminding many of us of some important things,
fellow Hearst Corporation employee, Jon Carroll,
The adventures of Mr. Monkey Mind,
alongside a few more words, of wisdom perhaps, or resignation possibly,
passed on to me this afternoon in long wonderful phonecon w/dear friend,
"embrace your hopelessness..."
buona notte, amici mio

funny thing about bloodlust ...       11.19
well, maybe not funny, perhaps better to say odd or unusual, but speaking personally, the numbers of folk in favor of the administration's policies in re to the War on Iraq/War on Terrorism distress us mightily. Up until the heartbreaking events of September a year ago, many of these folks seemed as harmless & lighthearted as many of the rest of the folks involved in maintaining a weblog or diary, but now many of them have revealed themselves to be more thoughtless, prone to simple-mindedness as well as plainly malevolent towards anyone who disagrees with them that we want no truck with them, don't want to be listed on their sidebars, our wish is simply not to have anything to do with them. In viewing the official log of visitors hereabouts, we discovered a referral from one of these Soldiers of Bomb the Shit Out of Iraq and Any Other Rag-head Country efforts, we'll not say whom, our intention is to provide them as little opportunity as possible to spout their poisonous drivel, but You, yah You of the blogs_of_war, PLEASE remove the dumbmonkey from your list of hostiles; you don't know me, you don't know a thing about me, you have no idea whether or not I feel active hostility towards you or simply something more like pity for your slavering blood thirst. What colossal idiocy ever inspired you to create that waste of time you're responsible for? I only wish I could live long enough to see you aquire some glimpse of your own idiocy. Life's too short to spend any more time than I've already spent contemplating the short-sighted & gullible
now, perhaps a more suitable reminder that there exists reason & compassion alongside a more realistic POV, we salute democraticunderground.com for their efforts in reminding us of the moronic behavior of many of the idiots in charge via their latest Top Ten Conservative Idiots

one of the nicest compliments we ever received...
was when one-time paramour mentioned she thought yourstruly
looked like James Coburn, despite the fact said paramour was
ahhhhhhh, well...   myopic as all get out...
adieu, James C., you were one of the good ones, laddie...

yourstruly's the first citizen of the spaced out world...       11.15
from the NYT, First Citizen of the Space/Time World;
the Einstein exhibit, Museum of Natural History, NYC.
should get my tired ol' ass out to nuyawkceetee one day, eh?

another fleeting weekend nearly upon us...
ourowndarnself wishes you an enjoyable one, there's some opportunity for that on our agenda, let's hope it comes to fruition, altho' we are kinda nervous about this brekkie we supposed to attend tomorrow morning...
while we here, let's make use of the moment,
point you (once again) in the direction of Mike Morford,
and, of course, the (personally) highly esteemed Jon Carroll;
oh my yesssssss....   almos' forgot...
also want to point y'all in direction of Poetry Daily,
An Ancient Dog Grave, Unearthed
During Construction of the Athens Metro

we HAVE to remain aware & vigilant...       11.14
and thanks to The War in Context for the reminder,
William Safire, from the NYT, You Are A Suspect

the week started out kind of rough...
and appears that yourstruly might be busy enough over the weekend to keep hizzowndarnself from navel gazing too intently, break out of that funk & fugue
that's been the predominant interior weather pattern of late...
many Thanks! to Leoba
at Down Home for her patience
& assistance on our search... we'll work on establishing an even keel emotionally to be sure we get thru the plans for friday nite, a brekkie we've been invited to on saturday morn, and the plans for dinner at chez d'monquis on saturday night, and try to work in a few hours of practice in case Phil-bert brings his guitarra along on saturday, just so's we can keep up with him. Speaking of things musical, ourowndamnself visited Down Home Music on sunday morning a week ago, had to keep tight rein on the pocketbook as that is certainly one place where a music fan could decrease a bank account substantially, as D.H.M.'s the home of Arhoolie Records; just a glance at Arhoolie's site will give you some idea of the great stuff available there, and mind you we were visiting after we'd already spent part of our morning at Amoeba on Telegraph as, you see, our joyful experience with the Buddy Miller recording we acquired earlier this month whetted our appetite for similiar material, we speaking about some Alt-Country stuff, some of that fine, high-lonesome flavored musicianship, and in particular
(the primary reason we stopped over at D.H.M.) was to locate older album by
Jim Lauderdale, as for which & why, well, we'll save that for another episode.
okay, but for now we wrap this up with a couple of tunes we discovered on the new album by Alison Krauss and Union Station, Live in Louisville. Am absolutely smitten by this tune, and kinda driving myself crazy wishing to hear Gillian do it herself; penned by Gillian Welch, the title track of recent studio album by
A.K. & U.S., New Favorite, and the last item we'll leave you with, another flavor of Union Station altogether, The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn.
oh yahhh, & again, something jessferdahalibut,
Killing My Lobster

hello...       11.12
Hey, Everybody! it's Lutefisk Time!
thanks in a roundabout way to some amorous propensities

ahhhhh, those russians. Nothing if not subtle...

oh yahhh, legal studies ourowndarnself might enjoy...

blue kinda day in Baghdad by the Bay...      11.11
oh, not at all sure why, mebbe the repercussions of last week's exercise in voter apathy is beginning to sink in, then again, maybe it's the very perceptible lack of daylight and the increasing diminishment of same before the first of the new year, ugghhhhhhh...
this political cartoon pretty much nails it, eh?

holy boy! tony p. does it again...       11.8
visit the "you know you're right" link...
and by the way, that Morford guy's got it goin' too;
and as for J.C., well, he's always got it goin' on...
and thanks, Tony, we glad you out there doin' that thing...

yah, okay, a friday jessferdahalibut bit of linky goodness...
from (Surprise!)the Houston Chronicle website,
who've provided a wonderful selection of first chapters to peruse,
whet that appetite for a visit to your local bookseller (Indy, of course)
this first chapter of Jim Harrison's The Raw and The Cooked.
the astute amongst you will also notice first chapter
of D. Ellberg's Secrets there amongst the selections...

a very windy night, almost frighteningly so...
some scary stuff shows up as the big storm moves in, more rain thruout today & into tomorrow, when things should begin to dry up a bit. One place yourstruly would not want to have been, driving across the GGB when that wind gusts up
over 40MPH, and that's the truth, Ruth...
here's something interesting to start your weekend off with,
Finally, if we want to be at peace, we will have to waste less, spend less,
use less, want less, need less. The most alarming sign of the state of our society now is that our leaders have the courage to sacrifice the lives
of young people in war but have not the courage to tell us
that we must be less greedy and less wasteful.

that's the last paragraph in a very thoughtful essay by Wendell Berry, c. 1991, which we want to thank El Stumperino over at environy for providing, go there for the link to the entire essay, ourowndamnself's gonna link to another essay,
Thoughts in the Presence of Fear, courtesy Orion Online.
oh, and as the weekend's about to arrive and yourstruly's gonna be playing it safe around the house, maybe get a nice fire going tonight, bank those ashes so that we can enjoy one on Saturday too, perhaps be motivated enough to play in the kitchen and make up some caramel goodies of one kind or another, mmmmmmm...
imagine that caramel tart, some vanilla ice cream, some strong black coffee...

sumbuddy's really fixated with sex on the staircase...       11.7
from the log of official visitors hereabouts,
& keep in mind, to get to d'monquis, whomever was seeking
linkage re stairs & copulation (mebbe he's got a heart condition)
had to go to the 53rd result on the list, that's needful, eh?

the first storm of the season has arrived...
and made its appearance noisily early this Am, wind and what sounded like a steady rainfall, we know we'll hear about some accidents this Am, humans with bad habits driving way too fast. According to those who prognosticate such things, rain thru Friday, possibly into Saturday, with another storm a few days away, that one arriving in about a week or so. So, without further ado...
In the end, the Vietnam War can't be reduced to a problem of miscalculated probability. It is of the utmost importance right now that we understand that the decision to go to war is ideological, not informational: the reason people disagree vehemently about war in Iraq is not that the facts on the ground or the true prospects of American military success are being kept hidden. What they disagree about is under what conditions and by what means the United States should try to affect the governance of other countries. It's not what we know but what we believe in that makes all the difference.
that's from New Yorker of 11.4, Nicholas Lemanns's review of D. Ellsberg's Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers
the complete review is here
a previous mention of item by Ruth Rosen at American Samizdat.

yourstruly would like to take this opportunity to offer up sincerest congratulations to the esteemed MonkeePopz for passing his real estate license exam.
Way to Go, Poppa San!

 Danger Will Robinson!
consumption junction might be
 entertaining if you've half a mind;
Pop Ups May Not Be Work Safe!fine pal on the other coast sent us a pic to view & have a laugh at the other day, & yesssss, it did bring a smile to our deeply creased visage, but we just couldn't leave well enough alone and had to add our own special touch to the image of our inept head of state making out like he knows what the hell he's doing.
wanna see it?, okay, go here

we've seen it mentioned at a couple of places that Craig has gone black,
and we can't help but wonder what Mrs. BookNotes thinks about that...

yourstruly unable to say there were any surprises...       11.6
awaiting us the morning after the polls closed, and yah, that's mostly the pessimist speaking, got to say, though, there's a heavy dose of the realist, and from what we can see, there's one hell of a lot of work to do before spring of 2004. Want to see something scary? Take a look at these numbers. (and we toss in for good measure here the Disraeli quote -- popularized by S. Clemens -- "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics") Now, don't know about you, but yourstruly is not at all confident of our ability to maintain our sanity if that grinning empty suit currently residing in la casa blanca manages to get his tiresome self re-elected.
okayokayokay, so perhaps now there's a definite swing of energies towards the republikans, demokrats lose that tenuous hold over the senate, but stop for a minute and think, these folks have been lining themselves up behind the Red, White & Blue Banner Waving Patriotic Clap-trap Juggernaut ever since September a year ago, as it is their firm belief that their political fortunes are dependent on support for the administration's policies, no matter how vacuous or ill-informed they are, as they run the terrible risk of being labelled Un-American if they exercise their grey matter and act independently. Can we hope for another Jeffords to step forward bravely and break ranks? Well, anything's possible, at this point in time I want to believe that el residente still has plenty of opportunity to provide examples of his less than imposing intellect, and that some of his hench-folk will also likely begin to provide plenty of opportunity to examine their character more thoroughly (ugh, what a horrible thought!) and perhaps provide cause for more of us to sit up and say, "Hey, Somethings rotten in Denmark, and in Washington DC too!"
ourowndamnself be the last to try to convince any of you that we be truly conversant with the political scene, or have any kind of appreciable knowledge of poli-sci, smoke-filled rooms, the whys, hows, and wherefores of the mechanism behind our electoral methods, but damn it, we are trying to pay attention, and making some effort to tell those folks closest to us that it is in their best interests to do the same. Being a silverback don't mean a lot in the big swing of things, but it does afford us the perspective of just how horribly things have declined, and we're not optimistic about seeing this downward trend slowed & reversed. It is going to take a lot of painful & unrewarding effort, made all the more difficult by the awareness of just how monolithic the opposition is, but it has to be done, a day at a time, week by week, painstakingly and patiently, oh man, gonna have a head fulla grey before too long...
gonna share a couple of things we came up with when attempting to seek out some words of comfort & support, we not altogether certain much of it is truly comforting, but coming away with the idea that we're not the only person who've read or seen these things, that maybe there really is enough of us out there, willing and ready to attempt to make some kind of difference,
oh damn, yourstuly's not one for praying,
but this dumbmonkey is sure hoping so. Start with this G. Palast item from a little over a year ago, yah, it's old news mostly, but a good reminder of how we got into this position to begin with. Next item from a while back, '92 matter of fact, but still awfully timely, Cynicism and the Election; the funky little gif off to the side over there from a PBS site, Vote for Me, Politics in America and we wonder if enough of us wrote to the folks at PBS headquarters and asked nicely, maybe you think they might broadcast it again, along with some other really fine and worthwhile stuff? Oh, but then HOW would we get the great smelly masses to stop watching Survivor, the Victoria's Secret Lingerie Special (OH, I'm taping that one!!!), the Bachelor, HOW do we get the dumb bastids out there to stop being dumb and PAY ATTENTION. Could get all worked up about this ugly fact of present day reality, but we just leave it with pointedly brief mention by this concerned citizen. Not so brief, & again from a little while back, yet definitely worth a studied perusal, from P. Agre's Red Rock Eater Digest, Some Notes on the Election.
Basta, amico mio, we say to ourself, Basta...
we leave you with a couple of quotations, the first from Ramsey Clark, who we mentioned a day or so ago, this quotation from book entitled War, Lies & Videotape; published by the International Action Center.
If the United States of America ever elected a president with the moral character, the personal experience of lifelong service to others, the noble thoughts and compassionate values of Haiti's President Aristide, then it would become a democracy. I don't expect that to happen in my lifetime. Struggle as we may and must, the greatest challenge in the struggle for democracy is the search for truth. The question of human survival and, if successful, of human nature, will depend largely on whether we can see the truth in time. If the people of the U.S. had full, open, equal access to the truth, they could find and elect their own Aristides.
the last, an old quote from the fellow once given the sobriquet Governor Moonbeam, now currently the Mayor of Oak-town, California, Jerry Brown.
The politics of America today is about supporting the continuation of nuclear weaponry and testing, and genetic manipulation, the consequences of which we do not understand, and the continuing isolation of living, feeling human beings in inhuman structures, whether they be jobs or urban clusters. This is going to create an explosion. And it is all masked by this deceptive, allegorical, political play called "minimum wage vs. gas tax reduction vs. Whitewater vs. balancing the budget" -- which is all so much sound and fury signifying nothing. All the while, this great drift, the juggernaut, is moving us toward the abyss.
this primate thinks you can substitute those deceptive, allegorical, political plays with some of the phrases of the moment, oh, like maybe war on terrorism, regime change, reaffirmation of business ethics, ahhhh, go ahead & think up some of your own, we very sure you've heard them spouted by the buffoon in charge...

ourowndamnself falls into category of godless heathen...       11.5
so we not gonna agree w/the christophers on a lot of things,
but we do appreciate their reminder of the Power of the Citizen

spending some of our morning on Telegraph Ave...       11.3
sitting for 20 minutes or so, where Telegraph meets Bancroft, in the warm sunlight, enjoying fine cuppa and watching the folks stroll about, the lovely gals, the handsome fellas, the prideful momz & popz alongside their collegiate kidz, early enough still that the street's relatively uncrowded, here to fulfill pal's request for a genuine Telegraph Ave/Bezerkeley item, but before our visit here was over we managed to contribute to the local economy by dropping into Moe's Books then over to Amoeba for a couple of CD thingies, a hundred bucks or so later, heading home with a nice warm slice of pizza alongside. Spent some fine hours in the company of pals Janey & Phil last nite, Janey's pal Michelle hung out w/us a bit, we enjoyed a casual dinner; Phil indulged my impulse to bring along la guitarra & we played (or more correctly, attempted playing) a couple of things, managing to throughly mangle up a few tunes, but smiling despite the unfamilarity w/one another 'cause we were having fun. Plans for more of this kinda thing in the future, some electric noise planned here at chez d'monquis, get down to some rattle & shake,
those knobs on the amps heading towards the 8-9-10 levels...
little more about our some of the Am's purchases later, but yourstruly did want to make note of a few things come to our attention of late, like the appearance of Stand Down, we proud & happy to see that some comrade blogsters contributing there. Discovered a fine introduction to this effort of allied individuals when visiting Textism last week, and somewhat relieved & comforted by the knowledge that there are plenty of thoughtful & responsible folks out there to counterbalance the mostly ugly, bile-filled, barely pent up rage spewed by so many others on-line similiarly, many of them described under the catch all of warbloggers,
and that's all we gonna say 'bout 'em here, oh man,
'cause yourstruly just gets altogether distressed by their example.
lesssee, what else? oh yahhh, after we converted the page to the "new" look, we took a bit of time to examine some of the links provided under a few essentials ova dere onnada left, removed a couple of outdated ones, added a couple others, then came across this interesting item at the madre.org site. okay, so now we head back in the direction we began in, as whilst on Telegraph, on the way out of Amoeba we chanced to pick up issue #2 of Blackthorn, out of Portland OR.,
and noted the following quote on back page:
"Our overriding purpose,
from the beginning right through to the present day,
has been world domination - that is, to build and maintain the capacity to coerce everybody else on the planet: nonviolently, if possible; and violently,
if necessary. But the purpose of our foreign policy of domination is
not just to make the rest of the world jump through hoops;
the purpose is to facilitate our exploitation of resources."

the complete quotation and more in this interview (circa Nov. '00 wethinks).
While seeking out the source of that particular quote, we also came across this very interesting one, nothing new, again, to most of us at least (getting fucking weary of preaching to the choir, ya know?) also attributed to R. Clark:
"The media, owned by the wealthy, speaking for the plutocracy, has the dual role of anaesthetizing the public to prevent serious consideration or debate of such staggering human issues as world hunger, AIDS, regional civil wars, environmental destruction, and social anarchy, and emotionalizing the people for aggression, all without a serious military threat in sight."
(quote from R. Clark's The Fire This Time: US War Crimes In The Gulf)
and in light of some of the things on our pal Stumpy Delko's mind of late,
(oh & ya better believe he ain't the ONLY one wonderin'...)
well, the shit just   R E S O N A T E S
buddy hissowndamnself... alright, enough of that for now, our blood pressure on an upward spike, time for the first bloody mary of the afternoon,
E n n y w a y z . . .
one of our CD purchases is something we intended to buy some time ago, when we first read local review of Buddy Miller's midnight and lonesome and, yah, well, it ain't for everybody, but yourstruly really likes it. There's plenty 'bout Buddy on-line and we wanna share our fave track
on the album with you, so you can find that tune here, for a while at least,
but if you're into this sorta thing at all, well...     'nuf said.
otra cosa mas, 'fore we wraps up this edition.
